Heat Sink

The heat sink is the thermal path that moves waste heat from the LED junction into the air — and thermal design, more than chip choice, decides an LED fixture’s real lifetime and lumen maintenance. Junction temperature drives every degradation mechanism: phosphor aging, lumen depreciation, and color shift all accelerate with heat, which is why L70 projections are only as honest as the fixture’s operating temperature. Industrial practice favours die-cast aluminum bodies whose fins are the housing (UFO high bays), separated LED modules with individual sinks (modular floodlights), and convection paths that keep working when dust settles. A fixture too cool to touch after hours of operation is thermal engineering made visible.
