DALI

DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface, IEC 62386) is a two-wire digital protocol in which each driver is an addressable device: fixtures are grouped, scened, and re-zoned in software, and they report status — lamp failure, hours, energy — back to the controller. DALI-2 tightened interoperability certification and added sensors and input devices to the standard; D4i profiles bundle the data model used by smart streetlight nodes. Against 0–10V, DALI trades wiring simplicity for control granularity: rewiring becomes reconfiguration, emergency-lighting tests become automated reports. Industrial relevance grows with scale — the more fixtures and the more zones, the faster the digital bus pays back.
