SMD LED (SMD)
SMD (surface-mounted device) LEDs are discrete packaged chips — familiar package names include 2835, 3030, and 5730 — soldered in arrays onto the fixture’s circuit board by automated SMT lines. They dominate industrial luminaires because the architecture distributes heat across many small sources, pairs naturally with per-LED lenses for precise beam control, and lets designers scale output by array size while maintaining efficacy (mid-power SMD platforms are the engine behind 150–160 lm/W fixtures). Quality differentiators live below the package: LED brand and bin, drive current relative to rating (harder-driven arrays are cheaper and shorter-lived), and board substrate (aluminum-core PCB for thermal spreading).
