The 50W LED flood light is the entry point of commercial flood lighting, and the wattage most often over-specified. At 3-6 m mounting - wall brackets, gate posts, low poles, sign gantries - it lights entrances, facades, pathways and small forecourts with better control than a larger fixture, which at that height mostly produces glare and spill.

Five SJTG housings carry a 50W variant, all die-cast aluminum and IP65-sealed. They ship with the same photometric files and documentation set as the high-power range, because a fifty-watt fixture on a building face still has to prove where its light lands.

Mounting height

3-6 m is the 50W envelope: wall brackets, gate posts, low poles and sign gantries. Above 6 m the output thins; step to 100W.

Beam before wattage

Narrow beams graze facades and frame signage; wide beams cover forecourts and pathways. The distribution decides the result at this rating more than the wattage does.

Entrances, gates and access areas

At 3-6 m the 50W class lights the places people actually walk and drive through: gatehouses, doorways, ramps and short access roads. It is the wattage where getting the aim right matters more than getting more lumens, because the surfaces are close and glare is at eye level.

50W is the wattage most often over-specified

Buyers routinely order 100W or 200W for jobs a 50W fixture lights better. Above about 6 m mounting a small fixture thins out, but below it a larger one simply produces glare and spill. Match the wattage to the mounting height and the surface, not to the budget.

Watch the price floor on this rating

50W is where the cheapest listings cluster, and where corners get cut on the gasket, the gland and the driver. Ask for the IP test evidence, the surge rating and the housing material before comparing prices - a die-cast body and a sealed driver cost more for reasons that show up in year two.

For signage and facades, beam angle beats wattage

A narrow beam at 50W frames a sign cleanly; a wide beam at 100W washes the wall and the sky and annoys the neighbours. Specify the distribution for the surface you are lighting and the wattage usually comes down, not up.

Sealed for outdoor duty, not weather-resistant

IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets, which is the floor for permanently mounted outdoor fixtures. Fittings described only as weather-resistant or splash-proof are a different and lower claim - check for the rating and how it was tested.

What does a 50W LED flood light replace?

Typically a 150W metal halide or a 300-500W halogen flood. The replacement holds because directional LED optics put light on the target surface rather than scattering it, and because LED output does not collapse between relamping cycles the way discharge and halogen sources do.

Is 50W bright enough for a driveway or a building face?

For most driveways, entrances and building faces at 3-6 m mounting, yes - and often with better control than a larger fixture, which at that height produces glare and spill rather than useful light. The deciding factor is beam angle and aim, not wattage. Send the dimensions and we return a layout that shows the levels before you order.

Which 50W housing should I choose?

SJTG601 is the compact reflector body for tight brackets; SJTG603 adds toughened glass for impact-exposed positions; SJTG602 separates the driver cavity for hot climates; SJTG604 and SJTG606 suit projects that may scale to higher wattages on the same family styling. All five are die-cast aluminum and IP65.

Can 50W flood lights be used in multiples for a small court?

Yes, and it is often the better answer. Several 50W units give more even coverage and finer aiming control than one large fixture, with lower pole loading and no single point of failure.
