ISO 9001

ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems — certifying not a product but the way a factory runs: documented processes, traceability, incoming-material inspection, corrective-action loops and management review, audited by an accredited third party. In lighting procurement it serves as a floor, not a ceiling: it tells you the factory has disciplined processes, and says nothing about whether a specific fixture meets its photometric claims — that is what LM-79 reports, IES files and product certificates cover. Sensible due diligence uses it accordingly. Verify a certificate’s scope (does it actually name luminaire manufacture?), its validity dates and the issuing body’s accreditation, then move to product-level evidence: test reports, sample inspection and, for serious volumes, a factory audit. A supplier who volunteers all of the above is answering the question ISO 9001 alone cannot.
