MPPT Charge Controller (MPPT)
An MPPT (maximum power point tracking) charge controller is the electronics between a solar panel and its battery that continuously adjusts the electrical operating point to extract the most power the panel can give under the current sun, temperature and shading. Compared with simpler PWM controllers, which effectively drag the panel down to battery voltage and waste the difference, MPPT typically harvests meaningfully more energy from the same panel — the margin growing in cold weather, weak light and winter sun angles, exactly the conditions where a solar street light struggles. In solar lighting the controller also handles the intelligence: dusk-to-dawn switching, night-time dimming profiles, motion-sensor boost and low-voltage cutoff that protects the LiFePO4 battery. It is a small component that quietly decides whether the light still runs at 4 a.m. in December.
