NEMA 7-Pin Receptacle
The NEMA receptacle (ANSI C136.41) is the twist-lock socket on top of North American-style street lights that accepts a photocell or smart controller. The classic 3-pin version simply switches the fixture; the 7-pin adds low-voltage contacts for dimming and data, letting a city start with a basic dusk-to-dawn photocell and later twist in a networked node — metering energy, dimming after midnight, reporting failures — without touching the luminaire or the wiring. For a specifier the practical points are pin count and dimming pairing: a 7-pin socket is only useful if the driver behind it is dimmable (0-10V or DALI), and a shorting cap should be fitted when no control is installed. It is the cheapest future-proofing available on a street light, which is why tenders increasingly demand it alongside or instead of the European Zhaga socket.
